PADI certification FAQ
The questions students ask us most when they’re picking a certification path.
How long does PADI Freediver take?
Two to three days end to end. One day of theory and confined water in the pool, then one to two days of open water sessions in the lake or sea. We run weekend formats most weeks across Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
Is PADI freediving recognised in Malaysia?
Yes. PADI is the largest freediving certification body in the world, and Malaysian freediving schools, competitions, and dive operators all accept a PADI card. Your certification is recognised worldwide for life.
What is the difference between Basic Freediver and Freediver?
Basic Freediver is a pool-based introduction to a 5 metre depth target, covering breath holds, safety, and the buddy system. PADI Freediver adds open water sessions and certifies you to free immersion and constant weight dives to 16 metres. Most students who want a full certification start at Freediver, but Basic is the right starting point if you want a low-pressure first taste.
What is the difference between Advanced Freediver and Master Freediver?
Advanced Freediver takes you to open water dives between 20 and 24 metres on constant weight and free immersion. Master Freediver extends that to 32 to 40 metres and adds longer static and dynamic apnea targets. Master is the recreational freediving pinnacle before professional ratings.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer for PADI Freediver?
You need to swim 200 metres continuously (any stroke) and float or tread water for 10 minutes. No speed requirement. If you can manage that and you can equalise your ears, you can do PADI Freediver.
